As a guest staying in the Family Memories Room you can relax in your king sized bed, look out the balcony door, and watch the sun come up over Sink Mountain. In summer it peeks through the trees, but in winter the red, gold, crimson and yellow of the sun’s rays are easily seen through the bare branches. The antique flame pattern bed was originally twins used by the innkeeper’s paternal grandparents. Now the twins are pushed together and held together with a “Twin Doubler”, making it soft, comfy and cozy – just right for snuggling together between freshly ironed sheets for a night of romance. If you are an antique collector or just an antique lover, be sure to enjoy the various shadow boxes, framed memorabilia and other items collected from the innkeeper’s family used as décor in the Memories Room. Among the items are:
Other memorabilia include the innkeeper’s maternal grandfather’s First World War passport. As a war correspondent for the London Times, he traveled through Belgium, Germany, and Russia following the armies as they battled across Europe. At times his wife, the innkeeper’s grandmother, who had a great love of romance and adventure, traveled with him. She didn’t want to miss out on any of the excitement. In fact, she gave birth to their youngest child during the siege of Belgium. Ask the innkeeper to tell you some stories about her grandparents’ adventures during that time in history. You might also find the books her grandfather wrote after the war about his experiences interesting. They are located in the library in the Great Room. The Family Memories Room is the most expensive room at the Inn with a steam shower in addition to the jetted tub and shower in the tiled bath. On cold nights, or if you have a stuffy nose, there is nothing better than relaxing in the steam shower with some eucalyptus to clear your head so you are ready for deep sleep and a restful night. The steam shower is big enough for two. Bubbles and a rubber ducky make a bath in the jetted tub more than just a chance to get clean. At the end of a busy day, soaking in the tub followed by an in-room massage, all the cares and worries of everyday life soon float away. Like all the bedrooms at the Iron Mountain Inn, we provide terry robes, hair dryers, soap, hand lotion, and other amenities needed during your stay.
In the morning, don the terry robe , get a cup of coffee and sweet from the hall just outside the bedroom, take it back to your private balcony and watch the birds gathering at the bird feeder for their breakfast. After you dress, stroll downstairs to enjoy a sumptuous breakfast with the other guests. Or if you prefer a romantic table just for two, let us know the night before and we are happy to oblige. We also offer breakfast in bed for a small additional fee. Among the items we often serve for “morning food” (we think it so much more than breakfast) are individual soufflés, crepes filled with cheese and fruit, assorted juices and fresh fruit in season. This might be poached pears, sautéed bananas or fresh Honey Belle oranges in the shell. By choosing to reserve the Family Memories Room, you will find other surprises as well when you come to Butler, “the town that wouldn’t drown” in Johnson County “the quiet corner” of Northeast Tennessee.
