Iron Mountain Inn Bed and Breakfast – Tour The Inn

For over 17 years, Owner and Innkeeper Vikki Woods at The Iron Mountain Inn Bed and Breakfast has welcomed guests to its mountain top location in Northeastern Tennessee, ‘the quiet corner’. This custom built log home, adjacent to the Cherokee National Forest, has views from its balconies and decks of Iron Mountain, Doe Mountain, Pond Mountain, Unaka Mountain, and even the North Carolina mountains!

Upon arriving at the top of the mountain, the most common expression is WOW! ‘What a view!’, and it is!

On the first floor of the Bed and Breakfast Inn there are the Entrance, Great Room, Dining Room, and Kitchen. A Large Deck surrounds the Inn for guests to relax, enjoy the views, and visit. On the second floor there are the Four Guest Rooms. Each Guest Room has views of the mountains and woods. Three of the rooms have Small Balconies.

Untangling from your car after a long drive, it is good to see Owner and Innkeeper Vikki Woods, standing on the front porch welcoming you to ‘the top of the mountain’. Climb the steps, enter the front door and turn right into the Great Room. Again, the word which comes to mind is ‘WOW!’

The French doors are thrown open and you walk out on the open decks surrounding the Inn as you take in Mother Nature’s special place.

The Inn Bed and Breakfast Tour continues with a stop to snack on one of the famous Iron Mountain Inn chocolate chip cookies from the bottomless cookie jar before you head upstairs to one of the comfortable bedrooms and settle in.

Iron Mountain Inn Bed and Breakfast – The Great Room

The Great Room is also known as the ‘Gathering Room’ because it is here that guests make new friends, choose a book to enjoy from the Exchange Library, share a glass of wine or cool drink, or hot toddie depending on the season, play cards or other games, and even bring back take-out to enjoy on the decks watching the sunsets.

The Great Room is the largest room at the Inn. It runs the length of the Inn on the southwest side. There are widows and glass doors to let light in and great views and a deck to walk or sit and enjoy the fresh mountain air.

The Great Room has been used for weddings and banquets for our guests and their families. Guests gather here to meet new friends, plan the days events, write a letter, work or play on their computer, be ‘lazy’, watch the fire, browse the library for a good book, and play games.

Iron Mountain Inn Bed and Breakfast – Owner and Innkeeper Vikki Woods

After searching North and South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee, Owner and Innkeeper Vikki Woods, finally found a piece of property on which to build her log lodge Bed and Breakfast Inn in Butler, Tennessee. Although she had been looking for 10 acres, she ended up with 140 acres, which backs up to the Cherokee National Forest.

Returning to Connecticut to put her house up for sale. Vikki was soon fast into designing and planning her ‘perfect’ Bed and Breakfast Inn! Measuring rooms to get the right sizes and thinking about all the things she liked in homes, hotels and resorts, she came up with the final design and amenities.

The Connecticut house sold, so in August, 1997, Vikki moved lock, stock and barrel to Butler TN in Northeast Tennessee, between Bristol TN and Boone NC. Putting her two dogs and two cats, clothing and a few other odds and ends in the horse trailer, she headed down I-81 to her new life.

Luckily there was an RV on the property with a covering and a deck and this is where Vikki and her animal family lived for 8 and one-half months while supervising the building of the Inn. Trudging up the mountainside each day, she oversaw the carpenters, plumbers, electricians, sheet rockers, kitchen builders, well diggers and road builders as they turned the mountaintop into The Iron Mountain Inn Bed and Breakfast.

By May of 1998, the Inn was ready to receive guests. Ever since it has been a respite for our guests who ‘Arrive as strangers and leave as friends’.
